20th Anniversary Fishing Competition
Huge fundraising efforts to support the purchase of firefighting equipment to protect our community.
Established in 2004, the Gipsy Point Fishing Competition was born out of a desire to bring the locals together to enjoy our beautiful environment and raise money to support the local communities of Gipsy Point, Genoa and Mallacoota. Pioneered by John Wood (deceased), Margaret Jackson and Sally Foster, the cash prize each year is secondary to the ultimate prestige of getting your name on the hand-crafted honour boards. Now fished over three days, the annual competition for longest Bream and longest Flathead is always hotly contested by adults and juniors. Over 20 years the competition has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support initiatives and local groups.
